Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
