The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
