The original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, announced how he will personally create this new product within a personal series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

The recent announcement deepens the continuing tension between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain how the parent company and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via an Instagram video how he is creating an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for public suggestions for naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder declared from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for solidarity with Palestinians due to its coloration, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism and Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company that originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Future Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed that he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades with the organization, citing concerns regarding how its independence was undermined following corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can fulfill its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
