Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
