Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
