Iranian Forces State Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
