Cameron Norrie Calls 'Most Significant Victory' Following Battling Back from Behind to Defeat Carlos Alcaraz in Paris

Cameron Norrie earned the biggest win of his professional journey by rallying from a set down to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two separate matches, this triumph signifies Norrie's first ever win over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Massive. Extremely important for me," commented Norrie, who is now the latest UK male player in history to overcome a top-ranked player. "Returning from injury last year, I was defeated in the opening stage of qualies here. I just tried to enjoy my performance in the second half of the year. To secure a triumph like this, it's the most significant victory of my professional life, my first win over the global number one and arguably the most in-form player in the sport right now."

The British player, positioned 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's impressive run of nine consecutive finals and 17 successive premier event successes, which marked the top run of performances in the Spaniard's young professional path.

The top seed looked to be advancing smoothly to a win at the start as he eased past the opening set. Nevertheless, Norrie steadily fought his way into the match by serving with greater precision and engaging the Spaniard into extended, demanding rallies. His persistent shot tolerance and reliability gradually took its toll.

During large parts of the match, Alcaraz delivered strong serves but he had difficulty to find his timing on his baseline shots. The rising talent looked notably uneasy striking his forehand, which has been the best shot in the world for much of this year, haemorrhaging 29 mistakes off the forehand side and a overall of 54 errors.
