This star, whose filmography spanned Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, left this world in her residence in Ojai, California. The news was revealed via an announcement shared by her child, award-winning actress her daughter Laura Dern.

Laura Dern, who performed alongside Diane Ladd in various films including Rambling Rose, described her as “my incredible hero plus my precious gift of a mother”, noting that she was at her bedside during her final moments.

“She was an exceptional mother, daughter, grandmother, star, artist and compassionate soul that only dreams could have seemingly created,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. Her spirit soars with angels.”

Initial Roles and Breakthrough

Ladd’s early career featured small roles in television programs including Gunsmoke while the seventies saw her starring next to actor Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.

During that year, 1974, she appeared alongside Ellen Burstyn in Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed film the movie Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her acting brought Ladd her initial Oscar nod in the supporting actress category.

Later Decades
